Check all fluid levsl and top up. Inflate tyres to 6psi above normal to avoid flat spotting. Buy trickle charger to maintain battery level

Hi Guys,

I live on the northeast coast the weather is shocking at times plus I work away so the only time I would use it is on a week-end as my wife uses a Fiat ravo for the school run. Now you fella's on here know more than me but I just think something that cost me £26,000 a month ago and its a soft top I just don't think its right for it to be exposed to the north east weather am I right or wrong. Also I never have any plans to get rid of this car its here for the long haul I keeping it forever as far as I'm concerned you views would be appriciated. Oh By the way can ANYONE tell me what colour black my car is or what code is what colour.
thanks

Best Regards

What model year is it?

Or what does your colour code say? (It's the only way to tell really)

Wrong! These are pretty hardy cars. Even without the hard top the British winter is hardly likely to make any impression on it. Remember, these things are sold in Canada and Alaska where its considered balmy if it's above about -30! Just wait until winter is over, give it a good jet wash, pay about £60 to get it professionally valeted and polished and it'll look better than new. Besides, those occasional winter mornings where it's cold, sunny and dry are the best for open top fun!

How about trying to drive the car when the weather is half decent and taking care to rinse the salt off afterwards? I would think it will really benefit from being driven from time to time to get all the fluids circulating, clean the rust off the discs etc.

If you are still keen to store it right the way through you should follow advice given above and also ensure its completely dry, buy a cover for it, leave the handbrake off if possible, move it slightly from time to time to further prevent tyre damage. I'm sure others will have more recommendations..

I drove my cherished 5yr old Boxster for a couple of weeks in Norway this winter and it coped admirably with some fairly severe conditions with no adverse effects. They are plenty tough enough[;)]

I live in the north east coast of Scotland, the Boxster isnt that bad in the snow!

Drive the car every other day, its the best thing for them.

Oh, and some waxoyl.

Your diagnosis is probably right...it's called the 'V-belt' and it powers all those ancillary items you mentioned from the engine.
It will need to be replaced ASAP.

Update frm Dr Porsche It would appear the water pump has sheared at the shaft £150 plus vat to replace. Thanks for the replys guys hopefully it will be home soon [:)]

Hi T200,
Can you tell us how old the car is/type etc and what sort of use it gets (regular/irregular) and what the service history is like. To my knowledge this is a rare type of failure but we need to keep track of it?

Regards

Hi Bryn,

It's a 2001 on a Y plate Boxter S Tiptronic 26k on the clock I only bought the car april 2008 it is my first venture on the Prosche experience and from what i can see on the provinance it is genuine milage I guess it has been used irregular by the two previous owners as I have all the Test Certificates for the car.have only put just over 2.5k on it since I bought it so. We used the car weekend and days off run about. From the service book it was last serviced in April 2007 having a yearly service and spark plugs changed. I have asked the guy doing the repair to carry out a full service on it thenI know it has been done. If you need any other info let me know.

Thanks Chris,
Pump failures (internal/seals) are not uncommon but for the shaft to shear such that the drive belt comes off is pretty rare, hope you get it all sorted to your satisfaction.
Bryn

Glyn,
You are correct the ancilliary drive belt is the "polyrib belt" in Porsche terms we should all use the same terms to avoid confusion!
Ths belt drives the alternator, power steering pump, water pump, and air con compressor. It should be checked every service and changed every 48k miles. Not too difficult on a Boxster once you have accessed it by removing the front engine cover behind the seats.

Well Guys
I have got the car back complete with a new water pump and got a full service done while it was on the operating table. The old lady sounds good now just like brand new or as near as you could get. [:D]
