Hey guys!
Just installed a lovely new car stereo (thanks dad for the xmas pressie!) but we have an aerial that refuses to budge.
The old stereo was temperamental and would switch itself on and off, so I figured there was a power/lead and dodgy connection issue that probably affected the wire that sends up the aerial when it's switched on - sure enough theres a dodgy connector with the elements 'bent' - a new connector and a bit of soldering wires and new stereo works a treat! Still no aerial tho - we found the wire for the aerial and tested with a multimeter (at the connector to the stereo end) and there is voltage there. I assume that the aerial is just knackered and needs replacing - probably clogged up and stuck in from rust and other substances. Searched the forums for a topic about removing and replacing aerials couldn't find anything.
I've found a replacement part here - http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/acatalog/porsche_944_audio_instruments_switchgear.html#a5_21404 - but at £66 ouch! Wouldn't mind a go at repairing the existing one [

So..... how easy is it to remove and get at? Is it a case of getting under the car and removing a wheel?
If its a case of taking just the aerial out to give it a clean - can you do it from the top? I see there what looks like a 'nut' shape that a wrench might go around ..........
See attached pic
Before I attack it with tools and make a hash of it ... is that actually a nut you can twist off and get the aerial out to clean?
Cheers!
