After fit CD Stacker

I have a C4S Cabriolet with Navigation & Bose, but no CD stacker system. Because of this you can either have the navigation system working or play a cd, but not both. Is it possible and easy to fit a 6 CD magasine to the system and where would it go? I once had a mercedes that I did this to and it was pre wired and a very easy job. Can anyone advise me?
Thanks,
Nick

What Model Year? If it's a MOST car (fibre optic bus) then you need to extend the fibre optic loop as well as power connections to the changer. Then you have to have the Gateway coded for the system to recognise the changer. If it is pre-MOST, then it's much easier - simple cable connections, and away you go. MOST started for MY2003 I believe. Some pre-MOST cars had the CD changer cable already in place, even though the changer wasn't fitted. My old C2 did.

Hi Richard,
Sounds as if its a bit trickier as its a 2004 car. Probably not a job I could undertake myself. I'll check with Porsche about the cost!
Thanks.
Nick

Just Checked with Porsche and they will fit it at a discounted price of £1K. I think I might get my ipod connected through the radio!

I fitted a Dension Gateway 500 to my 997S (with fibre optics) to give total access to my iPod. It was very straightforward and costs about £270 for the unit. SO much better than a CD changer. There are plenty of threads here and on RennTech about advice and pitfalls.
Good luck
Jon

Discounted??? The retrofit kit for the CDC4 changer is £572.86 inc VAT, and the book time for fitting is 2.4 hours. How does that work out at £1000? £180 an hour?

I've got the fitting instructions if you fancy having a go yourself, but you would still need to get it coded. Jon is right though, a Dension Gateway and iPod are a much better bet.

As Richard says, and from recent discussions on boxa.net, a MOST (fibre optic) head unit has to be enabled for the CDC-4 to work with it and OPCs are the only one people who can do so. They might do it for free - they might charge £150! Proper gateways like the Mobridge are by far the best option since they allow control of the iPod from the PCM - but they ain't cheap. Mobridge don't have an official UK distributor, but there is someone on eBay that sells them.

There are more options available to pre-MOST system owners, where a simple, cheap cable (Becker do one) can plug into the back of the head unit and give you high quality audio - but no control.

I have the Becker iPod cable on the back of my Grand Prix 7990. The head unit does work the iPod so I have full control from there while the iPod is locked away in the centre console.

I also have fitted a rear parcel shelf with some 6x9's and connected it up to an amplifier. It sounds lovely in my cabin now. I may build these to order for other Porsche owners if I get enough offers !

Yes, surely its not worth paying for a CD changer in 2008. I mean, those CD things are a bit 20th century ...

I'm not sure, but I don't think the CDC-4 will even play MP3 CDs. A good indy, or anyone with a PST2 will be able to code the car's Gateway module to recognise the CDC-4 or Dension, etc.

And Lee - I think you should be paying me royalties if you go into production! [:)] [:)]

Well I think from what I've read and speaking to a local company I'll definietely go the dension route, it's cheaper and gives me a far larger music selection at the end of the day.
My first posting on this forum, and I'm definitely impressed with your information and enthusiasism.
Thanks to all.
Nick.

I have the Dension unit in my C4S and extremely happy with it. However, have any of you who have fitted it considering extending your OPC warranty? Under the new warranty the PCM and the CDC are included. This means that until you replace your CDC you can't meet the inspection and won't qualify for the warranty. Well that's what I'm assuming.

I did hear that Dension have produced a new unit that enables the CDC to be kept. Anyone got one?

I am not too concerned about the warranty that much as I don't think I will renew with the OPC but I just wanted to flag it for those who might
