After Market Battery

For the first time (though I suspect not the last) my 05 C2S refused to start this morning on account of a flat battery. The Porsche Assistance guy mentioned that he's probably jump started every 997 Porsche in central London and that the worst were the GT3's. My car lives out in the street so I can't leave it to trickle charge, besides which, how can the battery drain over 10 days ? What sucks up all the juice ? That means I can't even go on holiday ! It seems to be a known problem, is there a clever fix ? Or has anyone fitted a heavy duty after market battery that cures this problem ? and do OPC's have a fit every time they see one fitted ?

Most people seem to go for Bosch batteries when looking for a good replacement.

Have you thought of using a solar powered charger, the cigar lighter socket is always live I think. This would allow you to leave the car for an extended period.

Cheers,

Good idea Fred
I've seen these in camping shops - they are about 18"x10" with a solar panel in them and they plug into your cigarette lighter giving a small trickle charge. Not sure they would be pwerful enough if something is using up juice at a decent rate, but can only help.
I think they are about £18.
Good thought though - I might be tempted myself![:D]

BUT do they work inside the car behind the glass, which will reduce the amount of UV light reaching the panel? If they have to be mounted outside the chances of retaining ownership for very long is not good, especially on London streets!

henry, does your car have a tracker? Other than that, and I've heard of a number of people with high battery usage from the VTS system, I can't think of any other reason. I've left my car unused for more than a month when I've had to go away on business or holiday and I've never had a problem on my return.
