After Market Exhaust

Hi Guys,

The baffle in my OEM exhaust has come loose and rattles like mad, I feel like this is an opportunity to put on a stainless cat back system on my 3.4L 996 (first year of production).

I’m thinking stainless is the best option and don’t want to go too loud but would like it to make an audible note change. I assuming loads of you have made this modification – any suggestions on suppliers/manufactures/fitters with low enough cost:quality ratio? I'm based in London, but willing to travel a little, but not much more than 1.5 - 2 hrs.

Many thanks in advance!

GD

If you look on page 2 at the bottom there is another thread talking about this and there is some differing but great views on what various owners have done . Take a look it may be of help

There very easy to change I would look at the state of the muffler brackets. I changed them as well on mine. if the mufflers are that rotten I would have thought they would be a as well by the x3 fixing bolts. I've just looked at where I got them from and they have a new pair for 380.00 or best offer I paid 200.00 for mine rrp from Porsche 600.00

Fitted Danske sports stainless set last year. Love the sound and doesn't upset the locals! At around 55mph it has a bit of a cabin hum, but no regreats at all.

I think i have decided on designtek's sports system as its quieter than most and a good price.

What are the thoughts on the following fitting costs:

"Labour - £350.00 plus VAT

I can almost guarantee the fixings that hold the exhaust to the vehicle will be corroded to the point of needing replacement so you should allow approx. £150 plus VAT for additional fixings etc."

Exhaust changes on any car can be a complete pig, so paying someone saves the hassle. However I would probably change my own when time comes around to do it. I am not sure of the labour involved; 2-3 hours for mufflers if you know what you are doing? Yes, all fixings will be badly corroded. Labour sounds reasonable, but £200 + vat sounds better + parts.

I know 'pieman7' did the whole system himself on his C4S, so he may comment.

Hi guys it took me 2 hrs to do but I did change the plugs and coils as well. There's two brackets that hold the mufflers on one that mounts on the engine block and then one that's bolted to the muffler which then bolts the the other on the block. I got the engine block brackets second hand from the states. And the ones that bolt on the mufflers from this guy on eBay 685302 he's got a pair for sale at the moment like mine it said 350.00 or best offer I offered 200.00 which he agreed. It's worth a shout there 600.00 a pair from Porsche.

Could you ,"operate" on the standard muffler.
Remove a little bit of what's rattling and improve the sound. All in for £200.
