After-market warranties ?

Does anyone have experience of after-market warranties for our steeds ?

Why asking ? Facing a large bill, as a result of a relatively innocuous lifter tapping on Friday turning into a "no, it needs to get looked at" tapping on Sunday after a spirited overtake (and rev...) - one side needs replacement lifters, camshaft, camshaft ladder (or whatever it is really called) and an oil pump.

Surely you cant claim for something that happened before you took out the policy?

Rather like taking out home contents insurance after a buglary and expecting the company to pay out!

Sugesting the problem occured after comencement of the policy would be dishonest of course.

I would like to think the OP meant that, after this work is paid for, he will get a warranty.

Or am I being a little naive [:D]

Hi Dave

UVW (Used Vehicle Warranty) are one of our business partners. They have tailored policies to suit PCGB members specifically. Please see full details in Porsche Post out today.

I'd hope so Nick.

But returning to the subject of warranties, apart from the Porsche extended warranty, there are companies like Warranty Direct, Warrantywise and Used Vehicle Warranty (who give a 10% discount to PCGB Members) who offer similar products.

Plenty of people on this forum speak highly of the Porsche warranty and some have opted for the UVW but it's still early days to get feedback on this. One chap has posted recently on his experience using WD when his rear springs failed on a 997: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=765940

Im with Warranty Direct for my 996 Turbo, having recently gone with them. At a major service the other week I needed two coil packs and they paid out for parts and fitting within 14 days of the work being done, minus a £50 claims fee.
So far they seem very good with follow up phone calls, emails, etc urging me to submit the claim, offering any help I needed?

uknick - precisely, I'd be considering a warranty policy once this bill is paid...

nwhear - poor choice of phrasing on my part.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll look into them. Perhaps £950 when the car was purchased would have helped towards what looks like a £2500 bill to replace the left hand side camshaft, ladder and lifters... guess it's a UK camping holiday this year !
