Aftermarket chips

Just wondering if there are any aftermarket off the shelf chips that stand out as being better than the rest, I used a Promax chip in my 68 until I got a custom re-map and was pleased with it, I will be grateful for any thoughts or pointers,

thanks.

Hi Peter, I don't know much about s2's but I like the sound of Russell Berry on Rennlist. He is the creater of Maxtune and seems like those that buy his products are both satisfied with them and Russell's support. I see him in the '944 turbo and turbo S' forums.

Oh, if anyone's interested I've got some Powerchip & Vitesse chips for a later model turbo that aren't being used. Both are excellent and I've had them on my car so no probs there.
Sorry if we are not meant to advertise here.

I used the off the shelf ProMax chip before the custom map and found it to be very good (both in terms of performance and A/F on the dyno). There were gains to be had with the rolling road session but they were relatively small and were mainly to make the most of the MAF.

I would expect chips designed in the US to be made with their lower octane in mind, whereas UK ones should be tuned for use with our Super Unleaded of 97-98 ron, it's certainly something I would look into before purchasing anyway.

Best regards,
Peter

That's a fair point Peter but the Vitesse stuff runs a bit rich up top for safety margin so I wouldn't worry about running them too lean on your fuels. The Powerchip's are made in Australia and I think our fuels are pretty similar to yours. Having said that, getting something locally I'm sure is a good option too if it's recommended.

The yanks actually have a more accurate measure of octane iirc its a sum of mon and ron whearas we use only ron - the ron is generally a much higher number than the mon so there 92 is close to our 98
this article http://www.elektro.com/~audi/audi/toluene.html touches on how the yanks calculate their octane ratings.
