Aftermarket Tyre Pressure Monitoring

Thinking of getting an aftermarket TPMS as have to admit I can be lazy when it comes to checking pressures. Can anyone recommend a system? I see Tyrepal and Auto Moto advertised in Porsche Post and like the look of the Tyrepal system but real world recommendations are usually best... Any thoughts?
 
I have the tyrepal system fitted to 2 sets of wheels- very useful gadget & "just works". I think Richard Hamilton has the same system in his too.
 
I have the Orange TPMS (branded in the UK as TyreSure). Very pleased with it, and if you buy it direct from the manufacturer in the US it is much cheaper. See here: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=531896
 
I have also used the orange monitoring system on my previous Audi A5 and 997 gen2. I have the factory fitted on my gen2 997 and in many ways the orange is a better product. The only down side is finding an appropriate place to site the monitor screen. When my wife had a puncture in her XC90 the system alerted her and we avoided a costly tyre shred. She has it installed on her Disco 4 and is very reassured with it. I bought my kits in the USA delivered to me while on holiday there. Would highly recommend although setting up can be a bit fiddly after a puncture - the manual is not too helpful.

I have mine permanently wired into the cigar lighter from behind the cover and the lead comes out above the tunnel in front of the gearshift. The monitor unit is attached via strong velcro.
 
I've got a Tyresure on one car and TyrePal on another. They both work well and are similar price but I prefer the TyrePal because it is more discrete in the cabin. The Tyresure has huge and very bright green numbers and beeps loudly when I turn on ignition. I just want it to be there and beep if a tyre is low in pressure or high in temperature. I don't need a readout of tyre pressures that is more visible than my rev counter[8|]. That said, the unit itself is wired in and maintenance free, whereas the Tyrepal uses batteries (although not had to change them yet - 3 months)
 
Decided to opt for the Tyrepal system purely because the display looks a little neater and simply replaces existing valve caps that have security locks on too as opposed a system being 'installed'. I've just placed the order and they're delivering tomorrow (!) so will post feedback on how I get on with it.
 
It's arrived and fitted...topped up the pressures then fitted the anti-theft collars and valve sensors all really simple took about 10mins.

I guess the pros are that it's really easy to get set up and the display is clear and concise. Initial Cons are that the valve sensors are larger than I thought and you can't top up the pressures without undoing the anti-theft collars (if you choose to fit them) - this could be a pain especially if you lost the hex key! I'm also a bit disappointed at the lack of rotation for the positioning of the mount but it does come with a variety of options (suction/sticky pads etc) so i'll see how I get on with it.

They look a bit vulnerable to knocks, or is that an optical illusion? Also, I can't see how it can give accurate temperatures in that position..
 
Believe it or not they are straight it's just the [daft iPhone] camera that's making them look as though they protrude about 3 inches and are all wonky.

Agreed, but I decided not to mount mine because I don't need continuous info on the tyres and the beep from the drivers door pocket is enough to alert me to look at it (perhaps different if I was on trackdays most of the time).

Richard's point about the temperature is a good one. The sensors are quite isolated from the tyres so I think the tyre temp would have to be quite high for the sensor to be significantly impacted. I'd not thought about that. I need to change my tyres soon, I might try running one at low pressure for a few miles the day I'm getting them changed to experiment.
