Agression from other road users

I have to say that i have noticed recently, ( as in the past 9 months or so ) that quite often when I pass a car I get the flashing light treatment. This happens mainly at night and I do have to admit that when i do pass something on the road I tend to do so as quickly as feasable.
I will be the first to admit that I tend to drive reasionably quickly but never dangerously , when I take the 993 out for a spin its not with the intention of doing 40mph!! , I never pass unless it is perfectly safe to do so. etc..
I have a number of theories behind this.
a) its dark and a 911's lights tend to ''bob up and down'' on the rod. ( perhaps they think I'm flashing ? )
b) they presume its some boy racer, its becoming very politically incorrect to drive fast, or anything that looks fast these days.
c) the 993TT roars like a banshee and has been known to spit blue flame when at full tilt. !![:)]

Has anyone had similar experiences ????

There frigin idiots aint they. They pull out in front of you, and then dont have the decency to get on with it. If they want to do 40 in a 60, they have got to expect some exhaust gas in there face.[]

yeah I hate it, and agree it's part of the turbo experience - it's worse in the turbo than it was in carrera.

I do think some motorists are genuinely shocked at how fast you can pass them - they may find it unecessary!? and passing several cars at once that is quite safe in a 911 turbo often looks to other motorists as being reckless?

My pet hate is in traffic when the idiot behind stops so far up your ar*e you can't even see his headlights! the number of times I've wanted to get out the car and see how much space he's left...

Yep addict, it has Xenons. think i'll have to get a set of lamps for for the rear as well, mounted on a gun rack.blind the fuc#ers.
Kenny as for idiots stopping up your ass in traffic....... tail gateing really really gets on my goat...

If you do the IAM course, or go out with one of the specialist high performance driving instructors, (Bernard Aubrey, Hugh Noblett, etc), they tend to focus on defensive driving techniques - ie making effeicient progress without intimidating or antagonsing other road users.

They teach the same method of overtaking as used by the Police Class 1 drivers for use in high speed driving. It's a bit long winded to explain here, but once learnt, it works well and seldom offends anyone.

Not sure if it is just the turbo experience, i have a 924S and a 2.7 911, and i get mixed reactions. When driving slowly, i get little crappy max power cars, full of 17 year olds up my tail, not really a problem more of an irritant, i guess there looking the car over just like i use to[:)]. But the up side to driving slow is older drivers, let me out at traffic lights, side roads etc. However when i get to a clear bit where i can open them up, the same drivers who let me out decide that they want to test their metal, usually renault laguna's or bmw 3series etc the problem lies in once they have been despatched, it's as if there is a mood change and no longer is it ok for me to be on the road. And in a number of case's there really would like to show me how much, i have been driving for 17 years, and I'm still learning but i have never put myself or my cars in danger. I just think some people are jealous, nothing more nothing less.

Are they definately adjusted properly? I find these over bright headlghts so dazzling that I literally have to slow down if being followed, because I simply can't see the road ahead clearly. I admit I will give them a flash when they do pass, thinking I am at least letting them know there's a problem.

Now I see my flash is probably going to be misinterpreted [:D]

I think the roads would be a much better place if we could somehow commmunicate with eachother as opposed to guessing what the others are doing. We could really do with Porsche fitting ESP [;)]

I find it comes with the territory - it seems every 17 year old in a Saxo with fluffy dice wants to prove he is faster than you. I find the best cure is to to just dip the clutch, pump the gas and light up the unburnt fuel is enough to get them to back off!

Sue here,
Come on guys you don't know what harassment is !!
Being blonde, female and driving a red convertible, seems to antagonise just about every other driver on the road. Most men seem to think that they have priority whatever they are driving, and if overtaken with a flash of smooth bodywork and a howl of exhaust seem to view the procedure as an affront to their manhood. Mind you their furious expressions are usually disappearing in my rear view mirror.
By the way have you noticed when you are out on a convoy drive with other Porsche owners, that there is always someone in a Eurobox who wants to try his luck ? Is it just the badge ?

strange i've never had a problem when driving a Porsche..find people tend to get out of myway/let me out of junctions more than when im driving a "normal" car..

noticable that people get out of my way more when im driving the 914 now its got the stripe on it [:-] [:D][:D][:D]

Overtaking I have found should always be a smooth transition of "˜before' (being behind the vehicle ahead) and "˜after' - being way ahead of it. As a rule I tend to implement the first rule of I.T. when overtaking. "Be paranoid, be very, very paranoid". "" where you can know and accurately predict your actions and ability it is never possible to do that with the masses who also consistently insist on driving on the extreme right hand side of the middle or fast lanes when there is nothing whatsoever in the slow lane.

In my experience there is only one way to overtake folk... & that's "fast" "" within the speed limits of course... ;-)

The number of times I have left tailers trailing, they don't learn "" they slowly catch up and do it again. I have just learnt to move aside after my first pulling away display & let the idiots past. Doesn't alter my journey time"¦

The whole lights things I suspect some are trying to make you think you have been flashed by a speed camera. "" Other drivers suffer a lack of confidence and behind the wheel ability and exercise enforcing their idea of the law to drivers who move faster than they do"¦ (Sadly I know a few)"¦

Just a badge? I trust this was meant in jest"¦ ;-)

Not sure, really. Can't think of any aggro experienced lately.Outside lane traffic seems to dart left quite quickly when they see me coming - always excepting the container lorries of course ( but they are under orders from their managers never to slacken speed, cos acceleration wastes fuel).
Maybe its a combination of me age and living in Gentle Suffolk.

Doesn't matter what you drive really, the roads are full of inconsiderate, arrogant, incompetant muppets who's first mistake in the morning is turning their keys in the ignition.

The only safe way to deal with these idiots is to control your anger and get out of their way pronto. Easily said I know.

The worst of all is the driver that gets angry with you for behaving correctly and courteously on the road, sadly a multiplying breed.

Rant over.

That post made me smile. ;-)
Agree with your points - especially the latter one...

Its probably the flames especially in the winter. Sorry to say never really had the problem when I go past I'm gone before they have realised it must be that 3rd gear and the 90mph+ speed you hits a few seconds later!!!

I've taken to brake testing Saxos and passing Scoobies on the inside. Beat them at their own game.[;)]
Bimmers aren't worth the bother, they're always going too slow.[8D]
