Do I need to get the passanger side air bag deactivated for my 6 year old daughter to be able to sit in the front seat? she sits on a booster seat and she faces forwards.

I know for rear-facing seats for babies it needs to be de-activated, but rules not clear for booster seats and 6 year olds.

Cheers. P

Good question !

I just liften this paragraph from the PORSCHE SHOP Porsche Shop FAQ

[FONT=Courier New"]Can I use a forward facing child seat or booster in a seat fitted with a passenger air-bag?

If your Car is newer than 1993 the chances are it will be fitted with passenger air bags. If this is the case and you wish to transport a child in the front seat then you must use seats that are compatible with our "Air Bag Deactivation Device" (Please call for details).

In these cases we strongly recommend that you telephone us for advice before making a purchase - for instance with a Porsche Boxster there is only the front seat available.

A point also worth noting is that children, and adults for that matter, should not sit too close to an active frontal air-bag. We would suggest that the car seat be as far back as possible from an air-bag during transportation.

If your car is pre 1993 it is unlikely to have passenger air bag devices so the use of a forward facing child seat or booster seat in the front seat of your car will only be restricted by the mandatory safety laws of your country. However it is advised that you check for devices first before doing so![FONT=verdana, geneva"]

I'm now not sure at what age a child needs to have the air-bag deactivated in a front seat. 12yrs when they no longer need the booster ???

Have also just read this on the TESCO site...... not that TESCO carry any weight on child safety in my book.

linky

Using the car seat safely
Once you've chosen your car seat, here's how to use it safely.
Install the seat according to the manufacturer's instructions
Always deactivate the passenger seat airbag when using the front seat
Always tighten the seatbelt as much as possible to minimise forward and sideways movement.
Make sure the seat belt buckle is not bent around the seat frame.
Ensure the car seat is free of anything underneath it.

yes but no but yes but...errmm...exactly?
This paragraph applies to all possible child seats. Be it for 1 month old or 11.5 years old kids. surely my 6 year old is safer in a crash (god forbid) with an air bag. she is sitting on a booster seat to make her the correct height for the seat belt. why is she in danger from something that is designed to protect aldults? what difference will it make if an adult is in the front seat and my daughter in the seat instead?
