Air Bag De-activation?

LBD

New member
I need to have my passenger airbag de-activated to accommodate a baby seat. (no, changing the car os not an option I am presently willing to consider!). I have a couple of questions:

I have a 05 Boxster.

Q1. Once deactivated, I assume if the baby seat isnt in the car, it can easily be reactivated for a big passenger?
Q2. Does the deactivation kit need to be procured from an OPC, or can my trusted independent garage order and install it?

Would appreciate feedback.

Thanks

AK.

it is key activated, so you can switch it on or off on the side of the dash. from memory there was one chap on here who did get it done independently and was quite pleased with the job.

Alison - its part number 997 044 800 13 - Chiled seat Isofix Preparation and Airbag deactiviation.

Once fitted the airbag can be turned on and off with the key - on the 9x7 series cars it might have to be programmed into the central control systems.

AK, I had the kit fitted to my 987 by my local OPC and am happy with the job. I have a 22 month old who sits in a Max Cosi car seat. She loves riding in the Porsche especially on the high days. The kit consists of a light in the centre console and isofix fittings in the front seat. A key on the passenger side dash in the door jam has a key operated on/off switch.

excellent guys, thanks very much.
I will let you know how I get on with having the kit installed.

jpbecker, its a maxicosi I have ordered as its compatible with the Quinny system which folds away neatly into the rear luggage space in the boxster leaving the front for nappies/dummies/wetwipes/bibs etc that will replace shoes and handbags :)

And when you collect the car after they've fitted the system, check that your radio anc CD still work. Apparently the computer often needs to be reset to reactivate the sound system. Or so they told me when I took it back afterward.

yes Dougie Thanks, I'm feeling quite fabulous. Fat and Fabulous ????????? weird.

Hi guys

Appreciate its been a while since I raised this, and yes, I'm now cutting it pretty neat, but I need to order this part so that I can have it fitted (Edinburgh OPC were awful at returning calls, so having it done by independant specialist).

Where is the best place for me to get this part. I have a 2005, 987 Boxster and need it for next week to be fitted.

Thanks in advance.

You are certainly cutting it fine young lady ...though you were about to drop it last month when i saw you [:D][:D]
I though any OPC will order it for you ...try Reading or get the independent who is fitting it to do the leg work

Loadsa time Brian........[8|]. Dont think wee mans in any hurry to put in an appearance. And I'm hoping its stays that way, as the dining room is somewhat different to what you saw last. Carpets up, and floors in in the process of being sanded - very messy and noisy!. Off my head? - TOTALLY!

Its Mr McCanna thats going to fit it for me when the Boxy's in for a service next week. He asked me to source the part, so thats what I'm trying to do. Hadn't thought of asking another OPC (mush heid!!), so will tackle that tomorrow and get them to deliver the kit straight to Peter.

Will keep you updated!

AKx

Air bag deactivation kit sourced from "trusty" Edinburgh OPC and got discount on the part thanks to a great deal Mr McArthur our former RO negotiated on our behalf too.

Just need to have a wee jolly to Edinburgh tomorrow to pick it up to have it fitted later this week.

Thats another big task ticked off the extensive list. phew!

When is the "real" big task due?

I need to know when to use earplugs (I'm assuming I will be able to hear you in Hampshire [;)])

No need for earplugs Mark. I ticked the "drugs" box. Then got out a highlighter and highlighted it. And then wrote - "hunners" next to it just so that they got the message loud and clear!

Got a few weeks to go yet but I will keep you posted in the event that Baby K does me a favour and puts in an early appearance. <<fingers crossed>>
