air box replacement and fitting a releif valve

Hold on tight i'm going in.........

well,as you may remember many weeks ago the wife started said SC and bang!!! ...yes you guessed it airbox doom. Yes yes i know that i should have fitted a relief valve when we first got it , a bit like i should really do all those other niggly little jobs round the place.
However i now have a "how too" from rennlist, and i purchased the required airbox ,and gaskets etc from type911 and out into the workshop i wandered.
First off is the partial engine drop to get to the top of the engine ,and tbh apart from me using my nice alloy trolly jacks under the wrong place and nipping what i think is an oil cooler pipe , its all gone swimmingly .
air con compressor out the way , 2 oil breather hoses at the filler cap disconnected , the main loom plug ,and viola after unbolting the rear engine mounts (oh not forgetting the gear linkage in the car)i slowly lowered the engine down on the jack. Boy do i now have plenty of room to work on this thing ......... never again will i moan .
So its off for some food and a bit of a rest and maybe tomorrow i'll actually sort the airbox out and have a running 911 again .

wish me luck.

Good luck Harv but just for any else doing this , there is no need to do a partial engine drop to fit a pop-off valve, you need a drill chuck with the right angle bend on it though. Great knowledge to have for the future though Harv.

To be honestthe partial engine drop was so easy (ok i am pretty handy with the spanners having run many a race car over the years) i can see it being worth doing to fit the valve ..... i have actually taken pictures as i have done this so i may reproduce the rennlist/pelican instructions with some pictures ..... it really is very very easy to do .. as i am sure you know.

I had the same problem with mine. i rebuilt the hwole top end of the engine from intake pipes up. new airbox, all seals gaskets etc and fitted a pop off valve. Bet you got your arm ripped off with the price of an airbox new from type 911? Also one thing to check is what caused the back fire its normally related to a fuel problem, namely the warm up regulator. I had to repleca this and also the fuel accumulator. Later the fuel pump to. The problem is they suffer from fuel evaporation. It could be caused by something as little as the non return valve in the fuel pump so worth checking to as you can fit a new external valve.
