Air Con again

Hi all, i'm going to sound a little dense here but here goes. Does climate control on a 944 mean air conditioning? I've been checking EBAY and the Auto Trader and a few (you were right Fen, they are rare) have climate control., but i'm sure i've read somewhere that you could get climate control AND/OR air conditioning.

Hope this makes sense.

Cheers Pile

P.S. Black or cream leather interior?(the car will either be red or black)

full climate controle was available, but most cars had a semi auto heater without the a/c function. it can be retro fitted but it is not cheap.
ia/c is easy to spot from the cabin as the heater panel has a double frost button

According to the manual there are three options. Standard heating control where the desired temperature is set via the right hand knob with blue to red colouring, Automatic heating control where the temperature is thermostatically controlled by setting the temperature on the control knob but will only cool down to the outside ambient temperature or Automatically controlled air conditioning which cools below ambient temperature.

that is of course assuming they arn't referring to the engine capacity (CC)[;)]

Chris (among others) is right, but to my mind climate control, at least these days, means that you dial in a temperature and leave the thing on "auto" and it then maintains the temperature you select regardless of outside conditions by turning the air-con on or off as required and also it manages the direction of the air so when it's heating it directs to the feet and when its cooling it directs to the face.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]The 944 system fitted to the S2 can maintain a constant(ish) temperature down to ambient (in my experience it rarely works very well but it can work - my cab was really good after I discovered someone had clamped a vacuum pipe when I was replacing the wiper mechanism). The optional system (standard on Turbos) adds the possibility of manually switching on air-conditioning. All that does is chills the cold air available to the system described above below ambient so it can achieve a lower temperature in the car. Direction, fan speed and whether or not the compressor is running is all manually controlled.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]The 944 Lux and 968 ClubSport (and Sport?) had a system where there is no automatic control at all and the temperature knob manually adjusts the blend of hot and cold. At a guess they are prone to temperature changes when the car speeds up or slows down.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Thanks for the prompt replies guys, thats what i needed to know.

Does anyboby have a picture that they could post of the double frost button?

Staying in Scotland, fcuk knows why i'm so hell bent on getting air conditioning.

Thanks again.

I have actually just sent mine off to be swapped with a 968 that doesn't have it (and he reports the heater has gone full hot which suggests it isn't working [&:]) so I don't have it. Basically though if you can picture the heater controls there are a pair of sliders one above the other and a knob either end for fan and temp - those bits are the same. On a non-air-con car there is a button at the left for recirculating air and one on the right for directing to the windscreen. When the car has air-con the right button turns it on or off (and has a snowflake on it) and the windscreen and recirculation buttons become half size in the space occupied by the recirculation button on the left previously.

Thanks Chris and Fen, thats a great explanation. I've also noticed " climatronic ", i take it this is an other name for air conditioning.

Cheers lads
