Air-con compressor

Just had the allegedly unusual failure of the air-con compressor on my '86 (non-sunroofed) Lux - on the hottest day of the year so far, naturally. The man who came to fix it said they're difficult to find at a reasonable price - the part is a Denso 10P15E. Does anyone know where I might be able to get hold of a reconditioned one for not too much? Thanks for any help.

Has it recently been converted from R12 to R134a? If so the failure is anything but unusual.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]In terms of finding one I don't think it's that easy although you would think they would be fitted to something else. Best guess is they are a Denso (so Japanese) compressor in a unique housing, so you need to get one for the 944/968. My working compressor along with my fog/driving lights seems to be something I could have sold ten times over I'm afraid, but they do come up. Alernatively you should be able to get yours rebuilt (depending what failed).

If that's correct it's a good spot. I think the end castings might be 944 specifc though.

Thanks very much for all leads and info - forget the Holy Grail, a good used a/c compressor is the new quest. Mind you, local man-who-comes-to-fix-it reckons he can get a new unit for £275-ish, which really isn't bad, so I do have options. Meanwhile, I'm just going to grab a hacksaw and cut myself a sunroof...
