Air con Condensor

My indy has tracked down the air con problem on my Targa to a holed condensor. Amazing how warm these cars can be even with a summer like we've had...

Looking at replacements I notice that Design911, for example, offer the OE unit along with an OEM (Behr/Hella) and an after market equivalent (NRF brand) at half the price. Does anyone have any experience or advice about which to go for?

Cheers/John

Many thanks for the quick responses - will definitely go down the Behr/Heller or NRF route. I'll save the pennies for the next project!

John,

I purchased and installed the Design911 BEHR/Hella Condensor and it is a good fit, not perfect as I had to manipulate the frame that it sits in as it was too snug. Its also recommended you replace the Condensor Desicator, relevant "O"rings and well worth replacing the Radiator Resistor which if not already replaced will most probably be shot! The additional bits cost somewhere around £65. Its an easy DIY with lots of write ups available and no specialist tools required. However an indie will save you a good few hours of your life if your not into that kind of thing!

Mike,

Many thanks! I'm not averse to twirling spanners but I'm having a lot done (as per...) so will leave the indie to sort it out. He did tell me it would require a new ballast resistor for the condensor as it wasn't usually worth trying to salvage the old one. Looking forward to having cold air again!

All I need to figure out now is why I can get warm air at the selected temperature when pootling around, but if I go over 70mph I only get cold air delivered. In winter it acts as a climatic speed limiter!

Cheers/John

p.s. Always something needs doing, right? A friend of mine recently bought an old V12 BMW - tidy enough but still needed some work. When I saw him at the weekend he said "I've just got about £1,200 worth of suspension to do and one or two small bits and then it should be finished. I've spent so much now it would be a shame to give up". I've been thinking exactly the same for the last 4 years...!

Its so easy to spend a small fortune on your pride and joy; however they never stop repaying you! (hopefully!!!)
