Air Con Part?

Tucked away high up in the corner of the near side rear wing quarter is what looks like a desiccator/cylinder (horizontally) strap-bolted to the inner wing. It is fed by the air con compressor via the usual two pipes before heading off to the front condenser et al... I know the 'real' desiccator is vertically mounted under the front n/s wing.

Anyone know what it is that's under the rear wing? I need to replace the broken rusted strap (as this item is only held up now by the pipes themselves). I've been though the PET illustrations and nothing there.

Cheers

Unless someone knows better I think the item you describe is a carbon canister for the purpose of filtering fuel fumes from the engine/plenum chamber and nothing to do with AC.

Excellent - thanks, pointed me in the right direction and now know more (might be useful to some)...

Yup, the charcoal cannister is part of the 'evaporative emission control system'. Collects and stores fuel vapours from the tank when idling or stopped. During normal driving these are drawn into the engine.

A faulty evaporative control system can cause difficult warm starting, erratic idling or poor acceleration if vapours are drawn into the engine at the wrong time. Apparently it usually affects drivability only when warm engine and/or outside temps are high (prolonged idling on a hot day). Cold running problems not normally part of this.

Problem then I have now is figuring out if it's worth replacing the cannister and also find where the control valve is hidden for this and check its operating properly. If anyone knows where this part is located that would be a big help saving time following where the vent piping disappears to.
