air con radiator fans

hi,just noticed today when i started my car in the garage only one radiator fan was running,before i start investigating, should both fans be running, ? i did a check on fuses and all good, the fan running was drivers side and its 2003 carrera, regards

The car has a two speed fan system. It’s likely that speed 1 isn’t working and this will be due a ballast resistor which chokes the voltage down to lower the fan speed. Fairly simple repair with Porsche parts.

Speed 2 (fast) is probably fine, as it uses a different circuit.

Ref the resistors:
Mine is a MY 2002, I changed the resistors last summer, but they don't look like that, mine fatter and green, the ones in the photo the earlier 'cigar' type resistor?
The resistors cost about £200 for the pair and it turned into a big job as I had to remove the wheels, bumper, liners and both radiators/condensors to get access. None of the connectors were reusable so I needed to solder new connectors as well.
I would do it again, but I'd allow 1/2 a day to do it.
I believe that the cigar type resistors are easier access and cut in. I assumed the resistor type changed with the 2002 face-lift, but maybe it's one of the seemingly random turbo parts on the C4S?

thanks, im in middle of service and lucky enough to have my own workshop with lift, i have all pans and wheel arch protectors off as checking for leaks etc, so now is the time to do it. i have always been working on classics, some play golf, some have a man shed regards and thanks
