Air con rads and dryer fitted

Hi All

New air con rads fitted at the weekend and re-gassed at local Mitsubishi Dealers, all very painless to do, Porsche front ends come off easier than I imagined. Less than £400 total for parts and gassing. There is much can be done to the car with a £700.00 saving. Has been noted that the car has had no spark plugs in the last 5 years, so going to attempt that one next. [8|]. Thanks for the tips

Suspect we might be local - I'm Edinburgh. David Phillips did a big service on my car and didn't charge extra for swapping the plugs nor coil packs, as one or two were cracked

Didn't try to do it myself this time. Do recall though one or two plugs trickier to get at.

Good job with the air con :)

Richard

Air Con job on 987 (997)
Very similar to do as 986/997) BUT
POrsche have added 2 clips between the lights that clip the PU to the Body difficulty to get off first time also likely to be rusty so order 2 new ones

As to the new Plugs. Jack up back of car
Put axle stands under
Remove wheels
Remove covers behind rear wheel arch
Remove Cover over Plugs

You can now get to the Colis and Plugs REPLACE BOTH x 6

Dead easy job just take your time
Sometime the bolts are difficult to get out
You should get ne bolts with the coils

I bought mine from euro - GENUINE BERU

Have fun

Hi Richard

I did not know about this specialist in Edinburgh. Yes I am fairly local to you being just north of Berwick - upon - Tweed. Worth remembering by the sounds of it. Don't get me wrong I have no gripe whatsoever with my OPC its just that when you feel that the money you can save by having a go yourself, it is just too tempting. I was quoted £300.00 to change out the plugs, I can do that for a little over £60.00, £1200 to do the rads and under £400 DIY. If I were a money no object person you would just let the experts do it, but both these tasks are well within an enthusiasts DIY capability I think. No special tools needed, no risk of serious mechanical failure that would put you at risk if you made a mistake. Not so sure I would tackle brakes suspension or engine issues, I am not a car mechanic and I think things like this are best left to the experts, but thats just my view.

Hi Richardjj
Wondered whether or not to order coil packs too, you may well have tempted me to do that, may as well as I shall be under there anyway. Thanks for the heads up

Bought my coil packs from Design911. £139. Beru branded. Design911 give a 5% discount to PCGB members too

I like to support the OPC when I can but not if the prices are too far adrift of indys. I also like doing work on the car whenever I can

Not sure if I am the Richard you are talking about
The only advantage to using an OPC is you MAY get more for your car when you sell it but these cars are jut not worth a lot of mone even with so full OPC history

I do everything myself and mark everything in the Service History.

Do make sure you fit genuine parts - or at least from the manufacturer BERU seem to supply Plugs, Coils and Condensors all of which are available from Euro Car often at 50% on line!!

Looking at the incredible money spent on building OPCs now I think they can do without or cash

I got a 50% deal on Brembo Brakes for all 4 wheels. Discs and Pads 230.00 in VAT.
AS I was replacing Discs that where passed their best the Pads had not damaged the sensors so they where OK

Did need the Front Disc anti Sqeel pads but the where cheap as well

Hi Richard, yes your right, I have no warranty to worry about. I record everything for this car. It came with a complete binder of history from the first owner, everything, even his hotel bill and all the paperwork from his trip to Porsche factory to pick it up when new. Being an RS60 I am hoping I recover a wee bit more for it if I ever come to sell it. I have to admit I have a very strong hankering after a 933, but the prices [:-]
