Air Con recharge

Just had to have my air con recharged as it had stopped cooling. The guy who did it told me a common problen with Boxsters and 996's is that leaves and debris enter the grills in the bumper and collect in the corner of the condensor and the body. They get damp, do not dry out and consequently rot the condenser. The answer is to every now and again get a long stemed vacuum put it through the grill and clean it out taking care not to stick it through the condensers matrix! A torch is a usefull aid so you can see what you are doing.

A little bit of care like this could save £175 a side plus the expense of having the bumper on and off.

To get through the grilles on the pre-2003MY cars, a card tube (inside of a kitchen roll etc) can be fitted on the hose of most vacuum cleaner hoses. This can be "flattened" a little to get between the grille slats, and therefore makes it easier to get to the back of the space in front of the rads.

Mark, great idea, but I'm still chuckling and thinking you missed out on Blue Peter in some way [;)] " inside of a Kitchen roll"
