Air con regas

Hoping it is just needing a re-gas - can anyone recommend a place to do the work in the Cheltenham or north of there area. Am assuming i don't have to go to an OPC, although the car is under extended warranty.

cheers

Jon

You dont say if the air is cold coming through the vents or is it warm ambient air. If it's not cold you need to take to an OPC as sounds like there is something causing a fluid leak and a recharge is not on without fixing it first. If its cold but not very cold try putting climate on Max and see if the temp through the vents gets colder. How old is the car? Compared with a new car it isn't as cold and after 2-3 years OPCs recommend a service (£150-200). Yes, you can get it recharged by an independent for less without affecting the extended warranty.

Radiators and air con condensers are notorious for corrosion on these cars. I would get it checked out at a PC first as these parts are covered by the extended warranty. Then if there is a leaking condenser you can get it replaced and the re-gas for free![;)]

The car is 3.5 years old, blows coldish air set at 16 degrees, but not very cold like you'd expect. I'll give Solihull a ring and get them to take a look.

Hopefully its not a stone through the radiators causing this

thanks for the replies

Have a look at the rads with a strong light. The exposed ones are the A/C rads. If you can see a green liquid oozing out of one you know it'll be holed and needs replacing (most likely cause)

If you are so inclined you can remove the bumper, replace the part yourself, and fit a wire mesh to the bumper openings to stop a reoccurrence and get it regassed at Kwik Fit (yes Kwik fit do a good job from what ive read on all the Porsche forums) All in around £170.

I had similar symptoms but the OPC said it was working OK and no signs of leaky rads. Sounds like normal deterioration to be expected for a 3 year old car compared to brand new. I decided not to have mine regassed for now.

Was on the plan to put wire mesh, currently talking to zunsport about it. Trip to OPC and then I'll take it from there.

This is cheaper and much more subtle than the Zunsport grilles. (Especially the centre one)

Thus..

Well good news - was a leaking condensor, so fixed under warranty and the sunroof looked at (see later post) and wheel bolts painted - all under warranty by the excellent Solihull OPC. Slight fly in the ointment - needed rear tyres, but Des worked hard to match what I could buy them for, so pleased

Top guy and top centre to be looked after..
Mind you last time mine was in there it needed tyres..[&:] (however it did need them)and Des also got me a price fitted that was only £10per tyre more than black circles!! and in stock!

Yes, good result Jon. I would have a small wager that it was the nearside one too![;)] What about the grilles now then?

Going with Zunsport black ones, as they have used my car as a model demo, so no cost to me. They are looking for Boxster centre demo cars, so if anyone has a Boxster 987.1 Centre, then they are looking for a donor car.
