Air Con Repair

I'm replacing the Air Con radiators on my 987.1. The existing ones have corroded badly on the bottom edges due to the perennial problem of leaves and muck building up behind the grilles. I've got the bumper off (after a bit of a struggle) and the replacement process looks fairly straightforward. The company I've ordered the new rads and o rings from suggested that I also ought to renew the condenser/dessicator at the same time. Based on the price this looks a sensible idea, but I'm not sure where it's located. Does anyone know, is it a diy job (I've only got trolley jack/axle stands to get underneath), and what are the implications of not replacing it?
Any comments much appreciated.

You need to get the a/c evacuated and recovered , replace parts then vac down , add pag oil and regas. If its not already empty from a leak then you cant do yourself and the refill isnt diy.

Many thanks everyone for your advice.
I've now replaced the condensers and the desiccator, and had the system re-gassed at my local ATS.
Everything now works fine.
While I had the bumper off I fitted plastic mesh behind the air intake grilles in an effort to prevent future ingress of leaves and other assorted muck. I've seen mixed views on the advisability of doing this, but there seem to be more in favour than against. I'll certainly keep a close eye on the temp gauge for a while!
Thanks again,
Richard
