I have aircon on a 96 model and it is not on my option list, rather included in the UK C16 spec for that year so it may be that this changed over the life of the model.

edit - the above is complete codswallop

It's option 573 on my Carrera as well

Codswallop !! Is that a good term to use when discussing air conditioning ?

Probably when discussing it's performance on a hot day.

I know why I thought it was standard. I got confused between the Carrera and the Targa I had previously. Air conditioning is standard on the Targa and does not appear in the option list. This I can confirm.

My 993 C4S 98 year C16 has air conditioning but does not have the item code 573 on the identification sheet.

One of the mysteries of Porsche ownership perhaps?

and my 96 Targa has air con but no mention of 573 on the sticker spec

So it looks like for the Targa and 4S it was standard and not on the option list and on the Carrera and 2S it was option 573. I am surprised it wasn't standard on the 2S (that's what you have isn't it Maurice?).

Indeed, it was a £2375 option for C2, C4 & RS for 96 models. What's suprising is that the targa got a glass roof, a/c & nice wheels for £700 less than a cab (even though it was built on a cab chassis).
