Air Con

Any of you guys had air con fitted? I'm toying with the idea & wondering which is best?

Thanks.

I thought about this a couple of years ago - advice from Pelican was that a retrofit was really difficult and involved drilling large holes which I was not prepared to do. I did try to get some images of the standard factory fit for RHD cars but didn't succeed.

Just drive faster with the windows open!

never thought of getting it myself but have read about it and the bottom line is ....lot of hassel and £sss. just keep the windows down.

steve
ps. i think i saw a web page on pelican site about this.

Sorry, can't help as my AC was removed before I purchased the car ( which otherwise is totally original).

Might be worth logging on to the 'impact bumpers' forum and asking the question there.

They are usually lots of technically minded fellow enthusiasts there who are only too willing to pass on their experience/knowledge.

I had mine refurbed about 5 years ago and converted for R134 refrigerant. It worked very well for a couple of years, but slowly lost gas. It is with my indy at the moment while they try to find the leak. Worth doing in my opinion.

Open the Windows we don't really need air con in this country and its not really worth the time and money ,it saps power and looks wrong

Not to mention the addition of a bloody great compressor just where extra weight isn't needed...

Met a chap last year at a show with an 89 3.2. He had spent 3 years and a small fortune trying to sort his aircon..never got it working properly so ended up taking it all out. Significant weight saving and even when working, it's no where near as effective as modern car systems.
Depends what you want....maintaining total originality on these cars can be an expensive and frustrating quest. I guess it's down to individual preference. If you must have aircon, you can get an electronic system that will cost about £4K that is apparently very effective.

Another Classic Retrofit product covering a market niche!
