If "you cant live without aircon", there might be a chance that you will find the 911 anachronistic and too raw. Reason is that the heating system (i.e. the engine blower and the dashboard blower motor) in the impact bumper cars is pathetic, temperature wise it comes with the enormuous choice of "siberian cold" or "hellish hot", old hands with 911's usually drive with a window 0,5 inch open in order to prevent condensation with more than two people in the car, (it takes a while before children adjust to that so you might have cold noses for a while) and then I havent touched on the position of the pedals, the steering, the interesting 915 gearbox, and no, unlike the pub myths a lot of recent 911 accidents happen with the front loosing grip first etc etc.
Now, if that didnt put you off, (re-?) welcome to the 911. Your kids will sleep like nothing else due to the engine in the back, you will ditch 95% of the stuff you usually take with you, forget aswering a mobile phone call unless you want to loose control of your vehicle, your partner will like the fact that all is within easy reach and its really quite snug. Back to basics, really, and personally I find nothing wrong with that.
Where are you based? You're welcome to try mine if you want......
Take care,
Bert
I had it on mine (a US Spec convertible...) and it did work, although not quite up in the "Arctic" stakes
One of the problems is possibly having the condensor for the airco sitting right above the engine, and soaking up all that nice heat that rises from there...
Just need to wind the windows down - helps you hear the engine better as well []

My only problem is the wife hates the whale fin at the back but then she's not driving the car.

Take it off then, lots of people remove the tails (mine has been removed - although not by me!) If you can find a plain engine lid you can sell your engine lid with tail on ebay or similar and probably get £150 -£200 if the markets right at the time.
Its just personal taste with regard to tails, I like them but I like my car without it. Some people say that you must remove the front chin spoiler if you remove the tail, but I haven't and have suffered no problems so far[] I think it only really makes any odds at very high speed anyway.

If you really need aircon, you're really looking at a later model, 964 (1989) onwards.
Good luck.
PS: Removing the whale tale off an original Sport, really, tut, tut. That's what makes them so 80's!!

Hope you managed to find the right one. From my research AC was not standard in UK 911SCs. It was an option for many accross the channel. I myself have an SC from Italy with AC (not working however). In the UK they often went for the rear wiper instead of AC - Some compensation NOT.
Hope to get the AC working this summer.
Oh and yaeh you just have to keep the tail!
Cheers

Do you mean a 3.2 Carrera or a very late 3.0 SC? Make sure you know just what you are looking at. Either way as has been pointed out air-con (pointless in a 911 I think) is an option only.ORIGINAL: skendrick
Thanks for the input, I am Based in Berkshire and not 2 miles down the road is a 1984 3.2 SC in what looks like A1 condition (or pritty much there) going for around £10,000. If this is a good price then I might go and have a look.

I think a variety of aircon systems were fitted as dealer options.
