Air Distribution Tube

Hi
Wonder if you guys can help
I have a993 C4, I bought it damaged very minor in the rear- just about to collect it from the body shop and have noticed a further damaged part- a piece of aluminium casting has broken off what I think is the air distribution tube- this is fitted well above the cat and only just visible, looks to me like its connected to each of the exhaust manifold heat exchangers. On further inspection I can see it is blitzed apart in the middle
Can anyone tell me what this is? Is is part of the heating system or is it as I think balancing the air from each of the manifolds?
I intend at some time in the near future to change the total exhaust and was hoping that I don't need to replace this until I have the exhaust of in a few months- will running the car with this tube blitzed have any detrimental effect on the car???
Any info would be great Adrian

I cant get a picture as its to far hiden away, its nothing to do with the exhasut but lies immediatly above the Cat (bishoff) this is a cast alluminium tube that connnects to each side of the heat exchanger on the manifolds, I looked on the pasrt register and I think its called the air distribution tube

993 211 360 00 its the alluminium part above the fancy exhaust

Adrian, Ok - found it in the parts cat. Picture you found makes it look a lot more substantial than the catalog! I think I've reached same conclusion as you, that it's "only" for transporting the air that heats the interior. In a few seconds someone else will be along and tell me I'm completely wrong. How badly damaged is it?

Its completley blitzed in the middle, when looking at it I dont even think it will make a great deal of difference as the heater pipe work come off the heat exhanger in the completley dfifferent place, from what i can see it looks like it collects extra heat from the top of the cat and feeds it back to the manifold heat exchanger????
Anyone else think different.
i will change it as soon as i have the exhaust replaced but i was hoping to leave well alone untill then
Adrian

HI , The tubes job is to feed the cool, fan driven air into the heat exchangers so that it maybe heated before its pumped forwards in to the sills via insulated tubes for use in the heating system. If it is split then some of the air will be lost and the heating system may be inefficient, wrapping some material around the break would be air tight enough to restore its function (exhaust wrap or some thin tin). as Chris said should be available used,as its not a part which ever fails except when damaged by an impact!

This sounds like it
