Air Filter holes

Any one has drilled holes into the cover of their air filter cover and replaced the filter with K&N filter ?

Is it the same procedure as done in 964 ?

What's the results?

Yes I have - this is the same as the motorsport cover, there's even the moulding marks on the cover where the holes would have been. As far as I'm aware there's no horsepower increase, just more induction noise which add to the sound track. Couple that to a set of RSR exhaust boxes and the car sounds like it should do![8D] No doubt there will be certain so called experts who will deride making any mods - but it worked for me![;)] Oh and if you want some RSR boxes, please let me know!

I may have intrst in those RSR's can you let me know the details please.

Also I see on ebay they are selling the Porsche enhanced sound boxes (with the chrome).
Is it purely cosmetic and worth putting these on or just drill the holes ???

Graham,

Good to meet you today at 9M. Once the boxes are on will let you know what I think.

Thanks,

William

Maurice,

I wish I had an RS, but that is the colour, well actually just found out yesterday at 9m that it is actually turqoise blue and only 6 993's came to the UK in that colour. As mine came from Germany there are now at least seven cars[:D]

Fitting the RSR's on to a carrera 2.

Thanks for the warning,

William

Maurice is possibly referring to my RS when i was running RSR boxes...The RS actually has a slightly different guage outlet pipe into the box than the 3.6 cars, this may have resrtricted flow?
The RSR's sound great but I would be suprised if you can pass noise regs on a normal trackday.

With respect to the snorkel attatchment on fixed rear spoilers, I am not so sure it gives any more bhp, but it may stop you losing some.
It should keep the intake air temperature cooler, I am told that as intake temperatures rise the ignition advances, this can cost 5bhp on a 993.
The drilled airbox again sounds great, but due to higher engine intake temperatures may cost you slightly in terms of power.

I am certainly no expert, but having tried various filters, snorkels and exhaust boxes on rolling roads. I have standard boxes,a standard filter and a £30 snorkel....it seems Porsche knew what they were doing when they worked on the 993.

Hopefully i will be along at the weekend Maurice......sorry if i was not clear or spot on with the advance/retard thing...i was told by a couple of porsche technicians that this is the effect of the snorkel in terms of saving potentially lost horsepower. In effect it mimics the intake route of the turbo without the intercooler.....
What i am suprised at is that for a part that costs £30 it was not standard on fixed spoiler cars. It is unusual to see an RS at a trackday without one retro fitted.

Maurice,
I have booked for Bruntingthorpe and wanted to ask what the format would be,
ie; start times, and along with top speed runs will we be able to also run on the track day circuit?
Any info much appreciated
Kind regards
John
