air filters

a while back Keith Seume did an interesting article in 911 & Porsche World on replacing the lumpy black moulded air box and filters with some smaller looking foam filters for his 1974 2.7 Carrera
Certainly smartened up the engine bay, great to be able to see more of the engine, but does anyone know if such a conversion is possible for an SC, where can the poarts be obtained from and how much and if so does it actually increase power or is it realistically for appearances

thanks
jonathan

This sort of thing does not suit the SC due to the CIS "Continuous Injection System" needing a sealed airbox.
I have seen a couple of designs for the top of the airbox but neither will help give more power but may add more induction noise

A little thing also to be aware of................

I had to pay an extra £40 to the insurance company due to the permormance enhancements on a 964 !!
The K&N didnt even cost me that []

And there probably were no performance advantages anyway[;)]

Tests seem to show no improved airflow on a K&N over stock, but they do sound better![:D]

Design 1 is weird, looking like 6 intakes.

Design 2, on the other hand, is so naff ! All bright and shiny !
I suppose that it's lucky that people don't have the good taste wot I does !

Design 2 is a take on the Ruf intake.

I can only echo what everyone else has said there is no performance gain to be had by using aftermarket filters on the SC , the exhaust is a whole different kettle of fish though. Design one utilises the Porsche filter and I think for £100.00 inc significantly updates the look of the engine bay and improves accessibility to the left hand side of the engine especially if you have backdated the heating system as I have.
