Air Flow Temp Sensor

Hi 944 friends,

My 1982/ 83 944 NA runs well but has always idled at 1100rpm (rather than the 850-900 expected).
I've now traced this to a dicky temp sensor in the mass air flow meter. Its reading open circuit now which i believe causes the mixture to run rich and hence idle fast.
Rather than replace the whole unit - expensive - do members think its possible either to solder in a new sensor (either in-situ or remote) or perhaps "fool" the unit by soldering in a single resistor of say 2K ohms value)
Any thoughts and recommendations welcome.

Note that the engine idles normally when cold and otherwise runs well. If anyone thinks I've misdiagnosed the problem, lease shout out!

Cheers
Petrus

Hi Petrus, welcome to the forum [:)]

There is an excellent website all about the 944 DME here:

http://frwilk.com/944dme/

It does suggest that if the temp sensor has gone then it is easier to get a s/h AFM rather than try to replace the sensor. The site does list expected resistance figres for set temperatures. I'm no electronic guru but if you could alter these with a resistor then I suppose your fix is possible [&:]
