This is probably going to seem a really daft question but I'll give it a go anyway...
I was removing a nasty cone filter from my car last night in order to reinstate the factory airbox etc and noticed a difference between the pipes joining the airbox/cone to the AFM.
On my factory spec box the pipe is just hollow. In the elbow of the pipe attached to the cone (which looks like a standard pipe horribly mutilated to attach to the cone) sits a metal thingy (yes you guessed it, I'm a technical whiz) but I'm not sure if this is standard.
If I was to describe this thingy, I would describe it as a metal sleeve with fins in that create a 'vortex' type shape.
Any ideas?
(Incidentally, attempting to fit the factory box proved proved futile as some ape has sheared off all of the bolts it attaches to so they need to be drilled out which I didn't have time for last night.)
