Air Mass Sensor

Am I just unlucky in facing a second Air Mass sensor replacement on my 1999 996 C2? In 25 years of Golf GTIs I only had to replace one. I had my 996's sensor replaced in 2008 at 47k miles at a part only cost of c.£450. Although running well at the last service in Feb at c70k miles the diagnostics flagged up that the sensor wasn't 100%. I'm living with it at present!

+1. Also, check out other sources for the MAF. Euro Car Parts, Type911, Design911, etc. you will find them at less than half the OPC prices, and it is a 10 minute job to change one. You just need a Security Torx bit. T20 iirc.

Hi Thanks for quick replies: My Air filter is standard. The car has been fully serviced on the dot by PCT since I bought it in 2004 with 27k miles on the clock and full OPC service history before then.

Sounds like you're just unlucky, unless it was damaged during installation?

If it's just become dirty it's possible to clean it very gently.

Air mass sensors have failed on both my 996s. They seem to be a weak component. After being stung by OPC prices the first time, my most recent one was replaced by Northway (indie Porsche specialists) near Reading for about half of the OPC price and no labour charge.
