Air Mass Sensor

Hello

The Boxster I'm about to advertise for sale went through it's MOT today. I also got it serviced too so I can slepp at night when I sell it knowing I've not saddled the new owner with any potential problems.

However, the engine management check came back with a fault regarding the air mass sensor. The Porsche specialist said that it's nothing to worry about and it was up to me whether I had it changed or not, but it did make a slight difference to the overall performance.

what do I do? Do I get it changed before selling it (more cost, but more sleep) or tell the buyer about the problem and knock a few quid off?

Is the problem serious? Does it really only effect the performance a little? I'd really like some advice, not that I don't trust the guy who serviced it (very open, honest and knows his stuff!) but I'm just in a quandry as to whether I ought to spend the money. Probably gonna cost me a couple of hundred.

Help please! [&:][:)]

Hi,

If a car I am about to buy has a known problem, apparently easy to fix, I always think "why has it not been done yet then..." [;)]

Get the part from somewhere like Eurocarparts and go to an indi and get it done.

AMS failure seems to be a common problem. I'm expecting mine to show a fault - although why this didn't show up at 48k service recently I don't know. It is covered by the warranty though. If you don't have this, then the part seems to be about £200 tops plus fitting, so you'd have to weigh that against the potential discount on sale.

I believe so.

It's been replaced now and boy does it make a difference. It's so much smoother through the rev range and no hesitation at all!

Pity I'm selling the car now! []

Yep - had mine done today - much much smoother. posted the full response on the thread about part throttle hesitation and cold stalling...
