Airbag de-activation

Could anyone tell me if the airbag de-activation kit (for use with a child seat) can be used with a non-Porsche child seat. The issue is that the Porsche branded child seat has an additional buckle which plugs into the airbag de-activation unit.

I believe that a BMW 3 series rear seat belt buckle (male part) will fit into the air bag de-activiation device, has anyone tried this and does it work? I was planning on using a Britax child seat in conjunction with the above BMW buckle. Any advice or other thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Gabriel

Not sure about using the BMW parts. I am just about to have the deavtivation kit fitted for use with the Maxicosi car seat. I understand that the deactivation kit you need to manually switch off and on so I guess that so long as the restraining kit for the child seat works, then it should be ok?

I was following the thread below:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=624506

In the 24th decemner post their is reference to the BMW buckle.

I am getting my air bag de-actiivated next week so I hopefully will be able to compare notes. This is of course only relevant to a 986 since I belive that the 987 has a key switch to disable the airbag.

Hope that helps.

Regards,

Gabriel

The early 987 didnt come with the key as standard, so I'm having that fitted tomorrow.
I will let you know how it goes.

Thats the airbag deactivation kit fitted. Pretty straight forward (says the very clever Mr McCanna who did it!).

I now have a key that truns it off (actually just car key) which is located passenger side. There is an indicator to remind you that its off on the centre console, and a warning on the dash.

Two brace thingy's have been fitted very discretely to the seat so that the Baby Seat can be harnessed in. All I need now, is a baby........................

Had the airbag de-activation kit fitted at Jaz Engineering and the tracking done at the same time. Steve is a very helpful chap.

Was able to get a "tounge" to fit the airbag deactivation device from Quickfit SBS Ltd in Stanmore (www.quickfitsbs.com) again very helpful people. This allows me to use a non-Porsche child seat.

So finally my son James ( 2 3/4) will be able to try out the 986.
