Airbag light slow to go out

I've noticed that my airbag light can take anywhere from 'normal' to a few minutes to extinguish.

Might this be influenced by putting things on the passenger seat? Although I am sure that it has not gone out as 'normal' when the seat is completely free.

Any thoughts welcome. I'm reluctant to start having it fiddled with yet, although I appreciate that some aspect of tensioner/airbag system might not be functioning until it is out.
