Can the passenger airbag be turned off in a 993?
ta.

Just been through this myself and believe I have the definitive answer (hopefully).

As others have said it can be deactivated entirely but its a OPC/Specialist visit to deactivate it and then another OPC/Specialist visit to reactivate it.

However, for the 1997 and 1998 model year 993's only, you can buy the kiddies seat (which is excellent by the way - takes them from about 3 years old [or two years old if they are big bu**ers like my little lad] through to being about 12 years old if they are short enough to still need it) which fits in the front seat and has what appears to be a seat belt type buckle hanging over the front edge of the seat. Each time you place the kiddies seat in the front car seat, you fasten this 2nd buckle in to another which your OPC or Specialist fits under the car seat and wires in and hey presto - airbag deactivated. Unbuckle it and another hey presto, airbag reactivated. It's dead easy.

You know when the airbag is deactivated properly because when you turn the key to ignition and your dashboard lights up - the airbag light will flash a few times instead of remaining constant until going out.

Of course only the official Porsche Kiddies seat and extra belt/buckle arrangement will do this but at about £180 for the seat and then perhaps another £90 for the airbag deactivator it's worth it.

I am afraid that if your 993 is model year 1996 or earlier there is no easy temporary deactivation available - only a permanent deactivation by visiting your OPC/Specialist.

Lengthy but hopefully helpful.
