Hiya all , I believe maybe wrongly that Air Con was an option on the car I have - mine isnt fitted with A/Con but was wondering if it can be done, who does it and approx costs as its the only creature comfort I miss and would pay to have it done.

Thanks

Hi Chris, There are companies that retro fit a/c, try yell.com or search the net. I saw a VW Corado that had a/c fitted for £1700. This was about 3 years back.

Can it be done ? Yes.
Will it cost ? Oh yes !

Will it take time/be difficult ? Yes/very.

Go for it ! I wouldn't be without mine.

Thanks Guys yep I thought it might be costly - taking the old girl on about a 3000 mile trip round Brittany/Normandy in Mid July and air con would be nice - that or tons of Evian and the roof in the boot if the funds wont stretch !! - her's hoping she wont let me down.

Best would be to find an S2 with air-con at a breakers and get those bits like brackets that don't wear out, plus any that can be reconditioned, then buy the parts that do wear such as the compressor, receiver/drier (which is knackered if it has been left without gas in the system), condenser new. It's going to cost a fair bit, but not much more than I'm probably looking at to recommission the system in my Turbo that will have been idle for 3 years by the time the car is ready to drive again.

I *think* that the non-air-con S2 has the same wiring loom as the one with air-con, so it should just plug in, but you'd need new heater controls to get the button to turn it on.
