Aircon re-gas info needed

Can anyone help? My '06 2.7 needs a/c gas (it was completely empty!) and the local garage said that he can't refill it because he needs info which is usually on a plate/label which he can't find. He says he needs the refrigerant quantity and the filling capacity.
Any info much appreciated!

Sounds like you have a leak that needs fixing first. However, here is the info you need for a re-gas:

Wow - that was quick! That's exactly what I need - thanks. The garage did a leak test and said it seemed to be OK, but I agree, it sounds suspicious...

Hi,

I`ve just had some "air con stop leak" fitted to my Golf. (£12.95)

The mechanic said that it works in the same way as "bars-leak" type of stuff for radiators. He says that some leaks can`t be seen when testing using a dyed type gas.

Might be worth asking about at the garage.

Hope this helps.

Cameron.

Hi,

A silly question I know, but where do you check to determine the state of your a/c gas.

I have checked my manual and can't seem to find any information on this topic.

Thanks.

Ken

Hi,

I have just had my air-con fixed. The cause of my loss was leaking condensors - a common fault on Boxsters. So I suspect that a re-gas will not cure the problem. The usual thing is to put gas through the system and use equipment to detect where it is coming out - before just re-gassing. However by looking through the air ducts at the front, you may well see damp patches in the bottom corner of the condensor(s) - that is the give-away that they are leaking and need replacing.

Mine lasted 11 years (but only 58K miles), which is exceptional. The air con specialist I took mine to had done about 30 Boxsters this year and kept a stock of the condensors!

If you live in the East Anglia area I would recommend ACautoworks on 01473 313131 (or look up their web site http://www.acautoworks.com) - I was pleased with what they did for me.

Regards,
