Aircon V-belt damage

Back in the summer I noticed my aircon V-belt was frayed and partially "rolled over". I replaced it, and subsequently had no problems for ~4K miles. I also got the local indie to check it whilst being serviced last week - they said it was fine, tension OK.

Now, for no obvious reason, it has started to show signs of damage again. The outer fabric part has a cut parallel to and ~2mm from the edge, and it's fraying. The rubber teeth are fine and tension seems fine. This happened after an "enthusiastic" run, so I'm thinking it could be revs related. Also I had the air-con on (I run it regularly to keep the seals lubricated) so maybe it only happens when the pump/compressor cuts in ?

Anyone seen this before ?

Mine used to wear the belts but not as badly as yours seems too. They did modify the pulleys to cure this towards the end of 993 production and I had mine updated by local OPC some years ago. No problem since.

well mine broke on the car when I picked it up, but then snaped the wires going to the compressor (ground and power) and i now have the spare parts to fix, its just getting around to fix it.

The pulley mod was only for the alternator belt; the AC belt was unaffected. Are you running a standard AC belt (13 x 1083 mm)?

I believe it is the correct size - bought it from Type-911 as suitable for 993. I'll check if the size is written on it.

Cheers,

Try replacing with an OEM belt, they don't cost that much more. I had a 'suitable' alternator belt which literally melted and splattered rubber all over the engine.
