Alarm Control Unit.

Has anyone had this problem, took my car in to my opc for a service during with they recoded the car so that when you opened the door the mileage display etc now comes on. Not that I asked them to do this.

On the way home I noticed that auto door lock function had not operated and today I found that the roof would not drop using the button on the dash although it would on the remote.

OPC checked car and apparently the car thinks its moving when stationery and engine running so stopping the roof dropping. This is also apparently affecting the auto door locking.

OPC thinks it might be the alarm control unit and I would stress thinks.

Does annoy me as the car was fine when it went in there and they are quoting £ 300.00 for an alarm control unit.

Anyone got any views or info.

My OPC THOUGHT the alarm control unit was at fault for my intermittant starting problems a few years back....'Good news sir, we diagnosed the problem....it MIGHT be the alarm control unit'

Needless to say I got a 2nd opinion.......and it wasn't...a quick chat to JAZ on the phone and they diagnosed the problem in 1 minute....blocked drainage channels, leading to a wet ECU.Fixed for next to nothing.

Tell them to THINK about fixing it FOC, because it was fine before they messed with it, and don't take no for an answer.

I spoke to the OPC this afternoon and left them in no doubt that as the car was fine before they worked on it I don't expect a bill, so lets see.

Sounds more like they reprogrammed things. I know for some settings they have to download and reload some EPROM.

I had an alarm CU failure and they sure do funny things, but nothing like you describe. FYI its located under the passenger seat and was something in the order of £600 (thankfully replaced under warranty).

They recon the programming is fine.

Perhaps its a ploy to get me to make a decision on ordering the c2s cab I was discussing with them.

Going to have a look behind the rear seats over the weekend to see if there's anything obvious.

It does seem a bit strange that they recon everything was working fine when it left the service bay.

They then washed the car, the first time its been washed this year after I took the hard top off and these problems then occured.

It could all though be a coincidence.

So maybe you also have blocked drainage channels, and subsequent to the wash a wet patch has formed behind the passenger seat which is affecting the ECU. Thats what happened to me and it plays havoc with it.

Good luck

Had all the rear open the weekend and no sign of water, all the drainage channel's are fine.

Checked it wasn't something daft like a loose connection.

Oh well, lets see what the opc comes up with.

Took my car back today to the opc and they diagnoised the problem as the roof control unit which thy have replaced.

Here's the rub, my car has a smart top fitted and the opc recons that this has caused the roof control unit to fail when they recoded the car.

Can't see it myself as the hood was working fine on the remote and the smart top functions of the rear windows being able to be lifted with the hood down as well as the windows closing on the remote were working fine.

Haven't got the smart top fitted at the moment as I'm concerned that it has been damaged when the opc recoded the car and I don't want to re-connect it and short the roof control unit out.

Anyone got a view or any comments?

Report what OPC have said to Smart Top. Their comments will no doubt be similar to what I'm thinking.
Load of B*****KS.
Who paid for the roof control unit, you, OPC or warranty? (let me see if I can guess)

Yep, you got it in one, of course I had to pay for the control unit, at least I got the labour foc.

I wasn't actually going to bother having the car serviced by the opc, but I thought, well its only 3 years old and maybe it would be a good idea to have the opc do it.
and the stamp in the service book.

Won't be taking the car anywhere near and opc when it needs servicing next.

Thats another customer they have lost.
