Alarm De-activation on ship.

Can the alarm on a "Boxster" be de-activated but still leave the car doors etc locked.
Would pulling the alarm fuse do the job without causing any problems?

I ask because Brittany Ferries say that car alarms should be turned off whilst on board ship!

I'm not particularly worried about the operation of the system by some 'ner do well', but I do think that the tilt censor could be activated by the movement of the ship.

Any ideas.

I believe if you lock your car with the key in the lock, rather than use the remote button, then the interior alarm etc does not set. I am sure I have done this on ferries before.

Press the locking button twice in quick succession and the horn should sound which will lock the car with the motion sensor turned off. (Works for my 01 model and is explained in the handbook, don't know what model you have but assume it will be the same).

Have taken the ferry several times to Denmark and after sailing for an hour they start calling people to reception, asking them to bring their car keys with them - vehicle alarms going off on the car deck!

We do what JC says.

We found the back window would vibrate and set off the interior sensors - which then got you a nice call to see the Purser who would not believe you cannot turn the alarm off...[:'(]
Suggestion was then to leave the car unlocked - to which my reply cannot be printed. []
I then pointed out the alarm resets itself anyway if you forget to lock the car...

Oh what fun.[8|]

Anyway, it only seems to go off when the ship is vibrating heavily as it turns around in the harbour. Turning off the interior sensors with a double-plip seems to cure this and not had any issues for the last few years.

Going by Tunnel avoids all the problems though [:D]

The 986 has an interior sensor using ultrasonics so it can be accidentally triggered by vibration etc. The 987 uses microwave technology so its not so susceptible to vibration. Not sure about disabling the tilt sensor, I think the alarm would need to be turned off for this which I think can only be done with the PORSCHE PWIS workshop tool.
