Alarm Gremlins - Cold?

The neighbourhood and myself were woken at sparrow fart this morning by the alarm going off on my 1999 996, which had been left outside. In panic mode I went outside in my jimjams to try and make it stop. I tried pressing the key fob to no avail. I then put the key in the lock and turned it - nothing, still going off. In the end I got in and started the car; the alarm was still sounding as the car started. I then turned it off and got out of the car. The alarm then stopped. I have left it unlocked, as I didnt want the thing to go off again. (There were two other cars between it and the road,so unlikely to be nicked) Obviously I cannot leave it unlocked forever, but before I do lock/alarm it again, I was wondereing if anyone had any ideas as to cause? The alarm has always behaved itself before now, so I was wondering whether it was simply the cold, or a mixture of the cold, plus ice etc on the car that may have triggered it. All ideas gratefully received.

Low voltage can often cause wierd faults on the alarm. Has it been stood for long? Switching on the ignition should be all that is required to switch off the alarm.

If not that, there are a number of things that could cause it. The tilt sensor or interior monitoring sensor are favourites, but you can only really tell what set it off by getting a diagnostic check done. For the time being, try double-locking the car with the remote or key. This will disable the interior monitoring sensor. Unfortunately, there is no way to lock the car and disable the alarm completely.

Richard, many thanks for the reply. I'll try the double locking and see how we get on. The car had onlybeen standing a few days and started easily, so don;t think there was a voltage issue. Regards
