Alarm Immob question

Morning all,

Question regarding Alarms / immobilisers:

My 1989 2.7 Lux has an AutoWatch alarm and also a Porsche immobiliser (the small key with the flat electrode type thing that goes into a slot next to the key barrel).

Now - my question is are the factory fit? I am guessing that as its a Porsche immobiliser that the immobiliser must be - but not sure on the AutoWatch alarm.

Reason I ask is that since the very cold weather, the siren of the alarm now doesnt work!! Lights flash etc when it goes off but no noise. Also no cherps when I lock / unlock the car..

Just wondering what my best option is. Get this AutoWatch fixed (if its not too old), or get a new system fitted?

Thoughts?

Hi
Think the Porsche one is uk importer fitted, and the otherone properly aftermarket.
When I got mine there were the remains of at least 3 systems, but only 1 fob, so I had them all taken out and replace with a Thatcham approved Clifford with certificate for about 250... thats what I 'd reccommend
Cheers
Mike

I would say that the Porsche immobiliser would have been a dealer fit unit. The Autowatch alarm will most definitely be an after market fitment. Autowatch are still very much alive and kicking, we fit their immobilisers to plant machinery and commercial vehicles. I would assume that if you can find a local dealer, you should be able to get a replacement siren, if that proves to be the problem.

ive often wondered this too, mine has an immobiliser point like yours but i dont have a fob, and there has been a sigma alarm put in which doesnt work, i was thinking about getting it taken out and a new one put in! i always fancied a tracker, i know mines not worth much but having your P&J stolen hurts no matter what it is, im still angry 4 years later.

If you are thinking of getting a tracker - don't go for the "tracker" brand - they are way behind the times now. The market has exploded in last couple of years and there are loads of firms with kit packed with cool features. (had to do some research because was insurance requirement for my campervan I got last month).
