Hi Andrew,

Well, having had a Meta alarm fail in my 3.2 I took the advice of my chum who installs alarms for a living. He recommended a SIGMA. Not cheap but blummin spot on. While he was at it, I had him fit remote central locking at £50 a door. Total installation, including recertification and 'compliance' cert was £445 including the dreaded VAT. Yes, there are cheaper systems out there, but Subaru insist on them in the Prodive STI cars (I know 'cos I used to own one).

My chap is 'mobile' but not as far up as you I'm afraid.

My Meta alarm was fited 10 years ago, and has never given any problems - could it be partly the skill of the fitters, or just luck ?

It comes with door/sunroof closers, and window lifters. None of those have failed, either.

You will need a two stage alarm for a targa, one alarm uses beams when the roof is on and the other is on the doors and bonnet for when the roof is off(very usefull)

Personnaly if you are looking at setting your alarm and leaving the roof off I would go for an alarm with a Proximity Sensor instead of the Ultra Sonics.. This is what we have on the Cab, so if someone reaches into the car with the roof down the alarm goes off.

Just something to consider as almost all systems have these as an option..

I too have had sigma alarms on a few cars, and agree they are spot on, worth the extra money.

Apart from the remote operation i had the keypad fitted as well - for arm/disarm( incase the battery goes flat on the keyfob).

the sigma alarms are mega intelligent as well, mine is fitted to a coupe but when this one was installed the guy showed me the arming sequence as well. basically in the first 20-30 seconds of arming the interior sensors take an 'average' of internal movement. after the arming time the average becomes it base setting for tripping the alarm. In laymans terms you can leave a window or sunroof open , arm the alarm, it sets, and doesn't trigger unless someone/thing enters the vehicle. i've tried it it works!!!

so it would probably work on your targa.

call a local agent, i'm sure they would explain it better!!!
