Alarm Recommendation

To try and 'gizzump' the problems that will undoubtely arrive anytime soon with my original alarm I am going to go for a replacement. Was thinking about fitting myself.......any recommendations. Don't really want any fancy functions simply door opening , motion sensor and immobiliser, all insurer approved.........[;)]

I have a sigma M30 or M32 - its great - one button which unlocks and the same button locks and immobilises - simple but thatcham aproved. It doesn t swear at chavs when they walk past it and you dont need a degree to work out how it works! the only thing I will add is auto closure of windows and sunroof, cause i like gadgets! (but only simple ones)!!

I've DIY fitted two alarms, and both worked fine 3 years later.

It's easier, but will take longer, than you expect. Read the instructions several times before getting on with it to ensure you know what you are doing, and go carefully.

As far as alarm reliability goes, a cheap alarm which is well-fitted will be more reliable than an expensive alarm which is badly fitted. Buy whatever you can find (within reason! Cat 1 approved for sure) and go ahead with the fitting.

The only point to add is that if you want extra functions (remote window close, boot opening etc etc etc) then you need to ensure that whatever you buy has extra 'channels' to do these things. But that's not hard.

Insurer approved will mean you need to get it inspected by a local alarm fitter, who will issue with a certificate. Cost me £25 or so, and takes under an hour. (I suspect they simply tested to make sure it works, locks and unlocks, and that's about it, but I have no proof.)
