Alarm woes

This car of mine is starting to drive me mad [:(]

Can anyone advise if the alarm can be set off due to a voltage drop?
The last 3 nights the alarm has gone off for no apprant reason.

The only thing that has changed is that I have had a tracker fitted on Monday.
It has never gone off before this week and I'm wondering if the tracker unit carries out some check or cycle which may cause a current draw to set the alarm off.

I've checked the codes for the alarm using the duratec software on 2 consecutive nights but the count of each trigger code hasn't increased dispite it going off between the 2 checks.

Please HELP..... for the neighbours sake [;)]

Thanks
Dave

Thanks Spyderman,

The battery is only 6 months old and it has also gone off whilst connected to the battery conditioner.

Thanks
Dave

Not likely to be that, then! A tracker does draw current, but your conditioner would compensate given it will only be milliamps. There is a backup battery in the alarm unit itself - found that when I changed my own battery and managed to somehow trigger the alarm before putting the new battery in - frightened the living daylights out of me! Anyway - wonder if that's the issue?

It sounds too coincidental to me that you didn't have problems before the tracker was fitted. As Chris says, a low voltage will trigger the alarm, so I would suspect the tracker.

Another common cause is the interior monitoring sensor. If you double-lock the car it will deactivate the sensor, so you could try that.

Yet another is the tilt sensor on early cars, which is located under the alarm siren. It fills with water, which causes false alarms.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the information, I hadn't thought about double locking it.
I looked around the siren but ther eis no sign of water - I have been keen to make sure the drains are kept clear.
I also checked to see if this had been disturbed during the tracker install but all looks OK.

I've managed to locate the tracker and wiring, so the next step after double locking may be to disconnect the tracker for a couple of days so I can monitor.

Thanks to you both for the info

Dave.

Don't forget to tell them though otherwise they'll assume its been stolen!

sounds like they have wired the tracker into the boot light, pull out light and check for any extra wiring.

It did go through my mind that maybe it had been connected to something it shouldnt be.
The only clue I have at the moemnnt is that the 'trigger wire' is brown/red and is in the plenum chamber near to the battery.

I will have a good look this weekend.

Thanks again for all your ideas

Dave
