Alarming!

Dumb question probably but I am trying to take my battery out to charge it and every time i take off a lead the alarm goes off.
I am sure this hasnt happened before but how can I take the battery off without waking my neighbours?

If it's an aftermarket alarm then it's not Porsche-specific, and you'd be better talking to an expert in that make and model of alarm.

BUT, generally alarms only go off if they are disconnected when 'alarmed' (i.e. set.) You are doing this with the alarm 'disarmed' (i.e. car unlocked and ready to start) aren't you?

An alarm I had in an old car had a key in the back of the siren for this as it had a built in battery to prevent potential burglars from just cutting the power leads to the siren to get round the alarm. You might not have a key but there must be some way to switch off the siren to stop this. Maybe if you Google the alarm brand you might get an on-line instructions.

I will check if its aftermarket. I don't think it is though and yes there is a key to disarm , course I have lost the key ages ago. Its quite a nuisance though because if the battery is only slightly down on power it goes off every time I try to start the car.

So let's get this straight...

You have an alarm
It is disarmed with a key
you have lost the key
the alarm goes off because you haven't disarmed it

No - I can't think what it might be![;)]

That's right.

Alarm works just fine but as I have lost the key I can't turn off the siren so if I disconnect my battery the alarm sounds off.

Also if I leave the car a couple of weeks without starting it and the battery goes low, when I do try and start it the alarm goes off.

That's why I want to put a new battery on.

But when I try to take the battery off......................!

Erm, have you thought about replacing the alarm altogether? Could solve a load of woes, and it doesn't sound like it's doing much good to anything ...

Actually thats not a bad idea Oli.
I am going to remove it altogether.
Thanks for stating the blindingly obvious!

Ummm, check your insurance details before you do so; you may find that having a Thatcham cat-something alarm is a condition of your insurance.
