Alignment settings

I'm taking the car for an alignment on Friday and looking for some pointers as to what values to go for.

Car is used for fast/road track work, I've got the values that Ed M-M sent me that he had on his s2 but I want to go a bit more aggressive.

I'm thinking camber, -3 front -2.5 rear.

Toe, 0.1 front and 0 rear

Castor 2.5 front or there is a school of thought that says as much a possible.

Am I miles off here? Any suggestions greatly received!

(I have adjustable camber plates at the front and the tool for the rears)
 
Sounds good but I think you will always want some toe in on the back, I have gone from loads to some and much prefer the some, currently 15' per side.

Also I think I would prefer -3 on the front and -2 on the back in that I think you always need at least 1 degree more on the front. As an example I drove my car at Silverstone a few weeks back in the mega cold and damp, even with -4 on the front I still got right round the crown of the tyre (1.31g in Luffield which was a surprise). If anything the -3 on the back was looking like to much but I reckon when its warmer I will be driving more aggressively and getting the back to move a lot more.
 
That all sounds quite reasonable. Front camber is the most important imo - will make a massive difference. -3 is still driveable on the road although not ideal.

I can only get -1.5 on the boxster without buying adjustable lower arms.

I'll ask the garage to mark the camber plates for -2 and -3 so I can change it myself if needs be.

I'll go for -3 front and -2 rear then as well.

I think a bit of toe in at the rear would help, any suggestions as to figures? Also, in my head either straight ahead or a touch of toe in at the front but some American topics suggested 10' toe out for sharper turn in, not sure about that?

And caster, just as big as I can go???
 
I have -1.5 on the rear -3/4 on the front, toe square, castor maxed, With any more negative camber I wore the insides on the road where I did the majority of my miles, no understeer issues most of the time with 255 rear 225 front though it would wear the outside edge of the fronts on track. If my track mileage was higher relative to my road miles I would go for more negative, and mine is still relatively softly sprung, rears wear evenly,

Ok, going off a mixture of what's been said here, the French turbo cup series setup and Ed M-M's centre gravity setup I've decided on:

Camber: -3F, -2R
Castor: everythingF, unadjustableR
Toe: 5' in per wheel (10' total)R

Front, still not sure??? Swaying towards 0 unless anyone with actual experience can help?
 
Well . . .

I got a phone call on Friday to say that the garage couldn't free off the rear bolts to adjust the settings so they'd soak it in penetrating fluid and try again in the morning. I then got a call on Saturday to say they still couldn't free it off with such a limited space to work in and could I wait until Monday. I suggested they took it off the alignment ramps, stuck it on a lift with the rear wheels removed and then had a proper go at loosening them off with better access.

The Maserati master technician is now going to see to it personally on Monday as he used to have a 944, they are also getting the alignment machine checked by the Hunter technical team and they need a car to set up to check everything. So looking on the bright side I'll get their top mechanic on the job and the alignment done by the people that train the technicians - all for £60 :)
 
Honestly I prefer front toe to be close to zero, its how I had my car for many years and its how it is now although it needs pulling in to zero from slightly toe out. Lots of toe in on either end just never worked for me and I hated how it made the car handle.
 
An update: I got nowhere with the car at Nissan, they chewed on that the settings didn't match their computer and they couldn't get the bolts undone and weren't prepared to take the liability if something went wrong.

Took it to an MX-5 specialist near me and drooled over their 400bhp race car whilst my car was aligned properly.

Rear was set to -2 camber and 10' total toe in

Front was at -3 already on the max setting on the adjustable camber top plates, castor maxed out at 3 and toe in was set at 10' total.

I've got a motorway trip to Sc4nthorpe tomorrow for an overnighter and then a trackday at Cadwell on Saturday so will report back.

The car felt much more planted on the road and less wandering so it'll be interesting to see if it's track manners have been blunted at all - if so then I'll get the toe set to 0.
