Hi,
i have a 2000 Boxster S. i have had a few months but have noticed that when pulling away as you press the accelerator nothing happens for a second or so and because you are still pushing further down, then boom it answers harshly. there seems to be no tickling (sorry about my choice of words) you just cant pull of slowly. my Neighbours think i am just being a prat. it not wheel spinning type of thing just no fine control. any ideas?

My brother had a similar thing on his 996 C4 some time ago. It had like a dead spot on the upper part of the pedal travel. We took off and stripped the throttle body and found that the wiper track was very dirty. We cleaned it and lubricated it with some contact cleaner/protector and it fixed it completely. The track is under a black plastic cover which you can unclip to access it.

Edit: It could also be the potentiometer on the pedal. If you could find someone with a Porsche tester, you could read the pedal position and the position of the throttle butterfly as you push the pedal down, which should show up which is the problem.

As per Richards comments, plus, Check the throttle body for the butterfly gumming up.
As the butterfly is controlled by an electric motor it applies pressure but the gum holds the butterfly (sticking) then all of a sudden it releases as you apply more throttle (and pressure) and then you find you've got too many revs.
Simple job and just clean everything with brake fluid.

If it is gum you often find an unstable tickover too - which you haven't mentioned so my suggestion may not be relevant - but useful to know
