all steamed up

today has been a nightmare. I have spent nearly all day in the S2 driving to various places and the whole time all my windows have been misted up. I couldn't seem to shift it no matter what I did.
I tried having the heater on full most of the time with a window open or the sunroof open but still the rear hatch remained misted up.

Anyone else have this problem ? what do you do that most effectively removes it ?

that could be It I guess.

The previous owner removed all the air condition equipment but left the control unit in. I have no idea what the various settings are to be honest and not having a handbook I have no reference.
I'll have to get a handbook .

Has anyone got a link to some operating instructions for the heater/AC control

Even with no AC compressor all the controls should work as indicated as on the control unit, even the air temp dial (the sensor for air temp is behind the glove box) - except of course you won't get any colder air than outside air.

The air recirc button is to the right of the slidey up/down adjusters and has three circular arrows on it. When pressed in the car closes the flap to allow outside air in (useful when following smelly cars or muck spreaders) but the manual itself even states that running with the air recirculating for prolonged periods will cause the windows to mist up.

Either that or you have some serious dampage somewhere in your car, our S2 demists incredibly quickly becuase the engine heats up so fast from cold [:)]

There should also be a "˜windscreen demister' switch next to the "˜air recirculation' one. Usually works a treat.

Interestingly, you cannot have your windscreen demister running on recirculated air - press the demist one, and the recirc light goes out.

I guess it makes sense ...

Oli.

Having no A/C does take some getting used to, if only for the de-humidifying effect. My 325 and my wife's Cooper demist almost instantly but the S2 can still take on the appearence of a Turkish Bath frequently (apart from naked blokes laying around, obviously). I suppose 20 year-old rubber seals don't help either. Mind you, casting my mind back to the last car I owned without A/C (which is on everything nowadays) was a 1990 Astra GTE. That used to steam up too, IIRC.

oops missed all these posts ?
In my Lux I used to have to push the recirculation button IN to get recirculated air . Is it the opposite on the S2 ?
I'll try that tomorrow. I assumed the control button to the right of the `slidy fings' was an A/C control.

I tried the 2x small buttons on the left of the slidy fings and the top one boosts the screen fan and the lower one boosts the side vents . The icon is worn off so I didn't know what they were for.

I've had to have my window open all day today brrrrr

its not the winscreen that mists up so much as every other bit of glass particularly the door glass and hatch
