All things IPOD

I've got a 99 C2 with the becker 6 stack CD and wanted to know whether I could play an IPOD through it.I asked an electonic wizard mate and he came up with the following solution that enables me to play either the ipod or cd at the flick of a switch. All the components were sourced from maplin at a cost of £24 plus a few pints for my mate to give up his sunday morning. What he did was...

A double change over switch has been fitted between the audio out of the CD auto changer and the head unit (main radio)

The change over switch moves the input to the head unit from the standard CD audio to the jack plug allowing any audio source (MP3 player, IPOD) to provide the input signal to the head unit. Shielded cable must be used as this is an audio source.

Phono connectors have been used at the CD auto changer end so no cables have been cut and the modification can easily be removed should you wish to put the installation back to standard.

The main disadvantage to this installation is that the display on the head unit still displays the track and CD that is playing but the music comes and is selected from the IPOD or MP3 player

Its a bit of a faff getting the cable through from the the boot into the footwell but its not bad. I've got one of those magnetic holders to clip the ipod onto and just unpug it and go when i leave the car. great mod although i'm reliably informed that my choice in music is still crap![;)]

darn [&:] knew i'd forgotten to do something. sorry never took any pics.you'll just have to depend on my photographic memory ! [;)]

If you wanted to sketch out a wiring diagram and make out a parts list, I'd be happy to turn it into an article for the DIY section.......

Richard - I'll have a word with my technical guru and get back to you. If i'm honest my entire technical input was along the lines of "can you see the wire yet?"[:D][;)]
