All weather tyres?

Hello there [:)]

I am new to the forum, so apologies if this has been covered before or should be directed elsewhere. While at the OPC (a while ago - lol) an engineer said to me, re. my Macan S, that his preference was all-weather tyres as these are more mailable in winter temps + work well in summer too. Basically, a compromise if you can't/don't want a set of winter wheels.

I have a 991.2 GTS. Does this only apply to Macans? If not, can anyone enlighten me of pros/cons and maybe a tyre suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

David

Hello David and welcome to the forum.

The thing to consider is all season tyres are by their very nature a compromise - they offer adequate performance in most circumstances, but not optimum performance in specific conditions.

I certainly wouldn't be fitting them to a high performance vehicle such your GTS for use all year round, since you'll end up with the worst of both worlds.

There's an argument for having them on a Macan as handling/road-holding remains acceptable, but certainly not the best. I fit a set of wheels with all season tyres to our Macan during winter, but am always relieved when it's back on its summer tyres in Spring, so as to enjoy the full benefits of the car.

If you have a Macan S.1, there'll be plenty of sets of used wheels (18" is fine) and winter/all season tyres knocking around quite cheaply or buy new from your PC and it will happily store your spare set for you. [:)]

Regards,

Clive
